The following file types are processed by ema:

▪Licence files (*.lic)

▪Project files (*.ema)

▪Geometry files:

•Collada files (*.dae)

•JT files (*.jt)

•Wavefront files (*.obj)

•VRML files by VRML 2.0 (*.wrl)

•Drawing Interchange Format files (*.dxf)

•STL files (*.stl)

•ema - library data (*.emalib)

•Image formats (*.jpg, *.tga, *.png)

•3D point clouds (*.las)

For existing customers (since 2025 and earlier), additional 3D file formats are available for import and export, depending on the additional licenses used. An overview of all additionally available file formats can be found at data export and import / KernelIO.

iCollada is the standard format for geometry data in ema, i.e. all data intended to be used in ema must be provided and/or converted correspondingly.

iWhen using JT files, the file version has to be taken into account. Currently the compatibility to the versions 8.x, 9.x and up tp 10.5 can only be ensured.

iThe .emalib format is an ema internal data format.

iWhen loading image data, a geometric primitive Image based on cube is generated and textured according to the image data.
